Tonosa and Mullen win GIR and national 10km titles

Hiko Tonosa (Dundrum South Dublin) and Catherina Mullen (Metro-St Brigid’s) took the honours at the Great Ireland Run 10km and, with it, the national titles at a windswept Phoenix Park on April 14.

Ethiopia-native, Tonosa, is the first asylum seeker to win a national title and did so in a time of 30:41; while Mullen also won her first national title with a strong run in 34:52 holding off Barbara Cleary (Donore Harriers) in second in 35:18 and Grace Lynch (Iveragh) in third in 35:33.

In winning his maiden national title, Tonosa held back Kevin Dooney (Raheny Shamrock) who was hot on his heels in 30:44 and Declan Reed (City of Derry Spartans) who had an excellent run for third in 31:07 and lead M45 athlete.
