Belfast City Marathon calls for volunteers

As the Belfast City Marathon enters its 38th year, the event is set for a massive year of change. Taking place on May 5, 2019, it will have a new, flatter and faster route for participants, there is a new start location on the grounds of the iconic Stormont Estate and, in a further change, the event is moving to Sunday for the first time ever. The Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon returns with a full line-up of events to suit all levels of fitness including the marathon and wheelchair race, team relay, eight-mile walk and fun run, all with new and improved routes. Stephen Burns, event manager, Belfast City Marathon, says the event management team are preparing for a huge year of change with the help of local volunteer agency, Volunteer Now. “We want all our participants to enjoy the experience of running the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon. Each year a highly skilled team pull together to ensure operations run as smoothly as possible on the day. This year, with a brand-new marathon route, we have even more ground to cover as we encompass north, east, south and west of the city.” We could not deliver the largest single participatory sporting event in Northern Ireland without our dedicated volunteers. We are delighted to work once again with Volunteer Now to encourage volunteer participation and help make our event a success.”The management team are inviting groups, such as churches, community groups and athletics clubs to get involved. Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon will donate £100 to each group and one free entry to the event of their choice (marathon, team relay, eight-mile walk or fun run) if they provide between six to 10 volunteers for race day.If you are interested in providing a group of volunteers (6+ people), please contact the Deep RiverRock Belfast City Marathon office on 028 9060 5933 or
