Samba storms to Irish Runner 5K as national titles go to Kelly and McKiernan

Peter Samba (Dunboyne AC) was first home in the Irish Runner 5K at a sun-swept Phoenix Park on Saturday May 4. Samba, who was not entered in the National Championships ran a PB to finish in 00:14:36.
Ciaran Kelly (Raheny Shamrock AC) finished a close second in a time of 00:14:45 and in doing so secured the National 5K titles ahead of Conor Duffy (Glaslough Harriers AC) and Peter Arthur (Liffey Valley AC).
North Belfast Harriers Men took the team honours with a strongly packed team taking gold just ahead of Raheny Shamrock AC and Liffey Valley AC.
In the women’s race, the evergreen Catherina McKiernan (Ananalee AC) ran a superb 00:17:15 to take the gold ahead of Mary Mulhare (Portlaoise AC) and Bronagh Kearns (St Senans AC).
Dunboyne AC’s Senior Women’s Team took Gold ahead of Raheny Shamrock AC and Dundrum South Dublin AC.
The Irish Runner National 5 Mile Championship takes place on June 15, while the Irish Runner National 10 Mile Championship takes place on July 13.
