148th National Athletics Champs

Under challenging circumstances, the National Athletics Championships took place across two weekends in August, offering some much-needed competition for our country’s athletes. Sadly, due to Covid-19 restrictions, some athletes were unable to compete, but the double weekend saw some cracking action, with one incredible 1,500m men’s race! More on that later! Hats off to Athletics Ireland and all the athletes, coaches, officials, organisers and everyone who made the champs possible for the 148th year! Turn to page 42 for the full story.

We love a good pun here in Irish Runner, but even more than that, we love to see a clever product that can help solve a problem. Enter, SmartyPans! Founded by siblings Prachi and Rahul Baxi, this interactive pan automatically records and shares recipes and calculates the nutrition of these recipes as you cook them. By connecting SmartyPans to an app, you can access lots of healthy recipes, as well as step-by-step cooking instructions including quantities of ingredients to add, when to add them and when to move on to the next step. They aren’t cheap, but if you want to learn more about healthy cooking, portion size and calories, you will find this pantastic!

Adjustable Selector Dumbbells

Many of us are working out from home rather than the gym right now, and if you are struggling to keep order on your equipment, or maybe your space is very limited, then these adjustable dumbbells are the thing! These particular dumbbells come in two weight packages: 2.5kg-25kg and 5kg-40kg and allow you to adjust the weight easily and store them away neatly when you’re finished with them.

Rash’R (facemasks)

RashR is an Irish company founded by three water-sporting friends who set out to create ‘the best rash vests on the planet’ with sustainability at its core. Rash’R creates products made from 100 per cent recycled polyesters (developed from reclaimed ocean waste), in combination with other materials such as recycled elastane to create a wide range of sustainable performance fabric options. They are now selling a range of gorgeous facemasks and neck buffs with filters from their website. These are made from recycled polyester, are machine-washable and quick-drying.

Rosy B Blends Face Mask Spray

We loved the simple idea behind this product, which might make wearing these new face masks a little more pleasant. Irish company, Rosy B Blends, specialises in essential oils and blending them to perfection to create sprays, rollers, diffusers, mists and bath drops. The Face Mask Spray is a blend of lavender and peppermint designed to calm, cleanse and keep you fresh behind the mask. All ingredients are natural and safe when inhaled and have anti-bacterial properties.

Teko (Teko Adrenalin running socks)

We spend a lot of time researching the best shoe for our runventures but what about the socks we put our precious feet into? If you are interested in being kind to the environment as well as your feet, then check out Teko, an environmentally friendly Scottish company, creating performance socks for running, walking, hiking and skiing. They use merino wool from South America, recycled polyester made from plastic drinks bottles, and nylon made from commercial fishing nets. And before you say it, they transport all raw materials and finished products by boat rather than air. Teko Adrenalin running socks feature ultra-fine microfibres that dry and evaporate moisture quickly and come with a lifetime guarantee! Sock it to me!
