Seán Tobin and Sorcha Nic Dhomhnaill delivered standout performances at the Dublin City Council Dublin City Half Marathon, each setting new course records in a fiercely contested edition of the race.
Tobin, 31, marked an impressive return to top form after a difficult spell with injury and illness, securing his first major half-marathon victory in 63:11. The Clonmel AC athlete took control of the race early and maintained his lead under constant pressure from Dundrum South Dublin’s Paul O’Donnell, eventually crossing the line 32 seconds clear. Donore Harriers’ John Travers produced a late push to claim third in 63:54, narrowly edging out last year’s winner Killian Mooney.
In the women’s race, Sorcha Nic Dhomhnaill delivered a remarkable run to win in 71:25, taking more than six minutes off the previous year’s winning time. The 41-year-old from Newcastlewest, County Limerick achieved the feat just a year after giving birth, making the victory particularly meaningful.
Galway City Harriers’ Maebh Brannigan finished second in a personal best of 74:47, earning her first major podium placing, while Sheila O’Byrne of Parnell AC took third in 76:43, improving her previous best by over three minutes.
In the wheelchair race, Patrick Monahan was a clear winner in 51:38, finishing comfortably ahead of Tian Bosch.
The event attracted a sold-out field of 13,200 participants, underlining its growing stature on the Irish road racing calendar.
