Andrew Coscoran (Star of the Sea AC) moved to eighth on the Irish All-Time list for the 1500m yesterday evening with a superb performance in Padova, Italy.
The Balbriggan man clocked a time of 3.35.43 to finish third in what was a competitive race.
It is another big step forward in Coscoran’s career as he goes ahead of former 5000m world champion Eamonn Coghlan on the all-time list who had a personal best of 3.35.60 indoors over the distance set back in February 1981 in San Diego.
The performance also moves Coscoran to the top of the Irish season list this year ahead of fellow Dublin man Luke McCann who ran a personal best of 3.35.65 earlier in the summer.

The race was won by American Yared Nuguse who ran a meeting record of 3.33.26, with compatriot Cole Hocker finishing second in 3.35.18.
Coscoran will now round out his season with the New Balance Fifth Avenue Mile in New York on Sunday, alongside new Irish 1500m record holder Ciara Mageean.
Andrew Coscoran solid season
It has been another solid season for the 26-year-old who recently finished his degree in DCU.
Having missed the National Senior Track and Field Championships in June due to illness, he returned to action the following week to win the Morton Mile by the narrowest of margins ahead of Clonliffe’s Cathal Doyle.
He made the semi-final at the World Championships in Eugene, before progressing to the final at the European Championships in Munich last month, where he finished ninth.
Coscoran, who is a member of Dublin Track Club where he is coached by Feidhlim Kelly, will shortly turn his attention to the Cross Country season where he will look to be part of the Irish team at the European Championships in Turin, either in the senior race or the mixed relay in which he was involved with in Abbotstown last December.
Also competing in Padova yesterday was Sarah Lavin (Emerald AC).
Lavin has had an excellent year making the world indoor final, world outdoor semi-final before finishing fifth at the European Championships.
She ran a personal best in the semi-finals in Munich of 12.79s to get ever closer to Derval O’Rourke’s national record of 12.65s.
Wind conditions were not favourable for fast times yesterday evening, but the Limerick woman still performed well finishing fourth in a time of 13.09s (-0.7m/s).
Lavin will wrap up her season next Monday at the GalĂ dei Castelli meet in Bellinzona, Switzerland.
