The annual Dooneen 10 Mile Road Race, held in memory of Michal Rejmer, returns to Limerick Racecourse on Sunday, March 29th. Now in its fifth year, the event continues to bring together runners from across the region for a memorable and rewarding race day.
Organised by Dooneen AC, the race honours the legacy of Michal Rejmer, a passionate marathon runner who passed away in 2015. His enthusiasm for the sport lives on through this event, which has become a highlight of the local running calendar.
The race will begin at 11am at Limerick Racecourse (V94K858), guiding participants towards Raheen before looping through the scenic countryside of Patrickswell and Crecora. Runners will complete a fast and varied 10 mile route, finishing back at the racecourse. A prize fund of €2,000 will be awarded across several categories, while post-race refreshments will be available for all participants and supporters.
Phil Roche, Chairperson of Dooneen Athletic Club, said: “This race has grown year on year, and it’s fantastic to see so many people coming together to be part of it. Whether you’re chasing a personal best or simply enjoying the atmosphere, it’s a great opportunity to test yourself on a well-organised course and be part of a very special day.
“The timing of the race makes it ideal for those preparing for the Great Limerick Run or building a base for autumn marathons. It’s a challenging but very achievable distance, and the supporters always give runners an extra lift as they near the finish line.”
HOMS Assist returns as the official sponsor for the fifth consecutive year, underlining its ongoing commitment to the local community. The partnership between HOMS Assist and Dooneen AC continues to strengthen the event’s place as a key fixture on Limerick’s sporting calendar.
Commenting on the sponsorship, Robert Bourke, Partner-in-Charge at HOMS Assist, said: “We’re proud to support an event that has such a strong community spirit at its heart. The Dooneen 10 Mile is about more than just the race itself, it’s about bringing people together, celebrating participation, and honouring Michal’s legacy.”
Encouraging people to join the event on March 29th, Robert Bourke concluded “Each year, the atmosphere at the racecourse is incredible. We’d encourage anyone with an interest in running, or simply in supporting a great local event, to get involved and experience it for themselves.”
Registration is now open, but places are limited, so early entry is advised. The entry fee is €30 and includes a finisher’s medal, while the first 250 entrants will also receive a free t-shirt.
