Westport AC’s Freya Renton and Sligo AC’s Ava Colreavy will proudly represent Ireland this weekend as they take on Europe’s best young distance runners at the European Athletics U18 Championships in Rieti, Italy.
The talented pair are part of a 25-strong Irish team competing at the championships, with a number of athletes making their first appearance for Ireland on a major international stage.
Both Freya and Ava will line up in the Girls 3000m Final on Sunday morning, with their performances placing them among the leading athletes in the field. Ava’s impressive 9:28.60 season’s best ranks fifth fastest on the entry list, while Freya’s 9:33.70 puts her comfortably inside the top ten.
The highly anticipated final gets underway at 9.05am Irish time on Sunday, as the two Irish athletes look to make their mark on the European stage.
