Avatar photo

On September 17th, 2023, the iconic Griffith Avenue in Drumcondra, Dublin, will be transformed into a vibrant sporting ground as it welcomes 2,000 runners and walkers of all abilities for the much-anticipated Griffith Avenue Mile 2023.

The event has evolved into an annual celebration that merges community with competition. Following its revival in 2019, this race has quickly become an unmissable fixture on Dublin’s event calendar as it’s an exceptional road race, which boasts an unparalleled atmosphere and a track record of growing participation year after year.

The Enchanting Allure of Griffith Avenue

Nestled within Dublin’s vibrant northside neighborhood, Griffith Avenue provides the perfect backdrop for this remarkable event. With its unique double tree-lined avenue, it presents a picturesque and challenging terrain for both experienced athletes and newcomers alike. The event captures the essence of a community coming together, be it for a leisurely walk or a spirited race against the clock. The event is a one-mile road race which will involve closing off a stretch of Griffith Avenue for several hours on the day.

Embracing Inclusivity

One of the event’s most compelling aspects is its all-inclusive nature. Runners and walkers of every age, fitness level, and background converge on Griffith Avenue, united by their shared passion. Beyond the exhilarating race, the event promises a great post run experience for participants and spectators with a community event hosted on the grounds of DCU College campus at All Hallows, Grace Park road.

Influential Backing

The race owes its success not only to the participants but also to its strong network of supporters. Dublin City University, along with Dublin City Council Sport & Wellbeing Partnership amongst many others, plays a crucial role in making the event possible.

A Champion’s Presence

The event is privileged to have Eamon Coghlan, an Olympian and former indoor mile world record holder, as its Race Ambassador. Eamon’s involvement adds an extra layer of prestige and motivation, resonating with runners who seek to challenge themselves and enjoy the iconic surroundings of the avenue. 2023 marks the 40th anniversary of the Griffith Avenue Mile race and Eamon Coghlan competed in that one too!
