Offaly Athletics has launched a new Road Race in memory of Ashling Murphy, the 23-year-old primary school teacher who was attacked and killed while jogging along the Grand Canal in Tullamore on the 12th of January this year.

The inaugural Ashling Murphy 4 Miler will take place on Sunday May 22nd at 11am starting and finishing in Tullamore Town Centre. The race will be run on a fast loop.

Ashling’s parents Kathleen and Raymond will present the first female finisher with the Ashling Murphy Perpetual Trophy.

There will be prizes for the first, second, and third male and female finishers and the first O40, O45, O50, O60, and O70 male and female finisher.

The race will also incorporate the Offaly Novice, Senior, and Masters Championships and is the first race of the Offaly Endurance Race Series.

Entry is open now on Pop Up Races, costing €15 with a portion of the fee going to the Ashling Murphy Memorial Fund.
