Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 Review

Introduction

The Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 is the latest update to one of the most popular plated trainers out there. It’s built to be fast, but also comfortable enough for everyday runs. I think of it as that one pair of shoes you can grab for workouts, long runs, and even race day if you want just one shoe in your rotation.

Testing Experience

Out on the road, the Speed 5 feels smooth and reliable. I’ve taken it on everything from easy miles to intervals, and it works well across the board. The shoe has a natural “roll” that helps you keep moving forward without much effort. At easy paces, it feels soft and forgiving, but when you pick it up, it really gives you that extra spring. It’s not overly stiff, which makes it easier to wear more often than other carbon plated designs.

Midsole

Saucony uses their PWRRUN PB foam with a nylon plate inside. The foam is light, bouncy, and absorbs impact well, while the plate adds some snap without being harsh. The ride feels fast but still controlled, and transitions are really smooth. Compared to the previous version, the Speed 5 feels a bit more flexible and comfortable, especially if you’re not running all-out.

Upper

The upper is thin, breathable, and keeps your feet locked in. On hot days, the ventilation is ideal —you won’t feel like your feet are trapped. The heel feels secure, and the toe box has a bit more room than before, which helps if you need space up front. The tongue is lightly padded and stays in place, so no sliding around. Overall, it’s a really comfortable fit.

Outsole

The outsole has more rubber in the key spots, especially on the heel and forefoot, which should help the shoe last longer. There is some exposed foam and it feels grippy on both dry and slightly wet roads. After several runs, there’s minimal wear, so durability looks solid for a lightweight trainer.

Verdict

The Saucony Endorphin Speed 5 is a true “do-it-all” running shoe. It’s light, responsive, and fun at faster paces, but still forgiving enough for daily training. If you only want one shoe that can handle workouts, long runs, and even racing, this is one of the best options out there. If you’re coming from an older version or are looking for your first plated trainer, in my opinion the Speed 5 is a fantastic choice.
