Sharlene Mawdsley continued her impressive early-season form by securing a podium finish in a world-class women’s 400 metres at the Golden Spike meeting in Ostrava this week.
The Tipperary sprinter clocked 50.28 seconds to claim third place in a stacked field, finishing just behind Cuba’s Roxana Gomez (50.20) while home favourite and reigning World Indoor champion Lurdes Gloria Manuel stormed to victory in 49.74.
Although narrowly outside the personal best of 50.17 she produced in Brussels last month, Sharlene’s latest outing underlines her remarkable consistency and upward trajectory.
Another sub-51-second display against elite opposition reinforces the Irish star’s growing reputation as she builds momentum for the major championships later this season.
