Sharlene Mawdsley (Newport AC) has been forced to withdraw from next week’s European Athletics Championships in Birmingham due to injury.
The Tipperary sprinter had been working tirelessly in recent weeks in a bid to make the start line, but following consultation with her support team, the difficult decision was made to withdraw from the championships.
Sharlene had been making strong progress in her recovery after being diagnosed with a hamstring tear, but ultimately the championships have come too soon.
