The Daily Mile In Full Stride!

Frank on Friday

It’s been a busy and productive month of October for The Daily Mile promotions to Primary Schools.

One highlight event of the month was the visit of the The Daily Mile team – Frank Greally and Valerie O’Brien – to the Connacht GAA Airdome in Mayo where there was a gathering of six primary schools from counties Mayo and Roscommon. The special guest  on the day was European 4x400m relay silver medallist Lauren Cadden – who was a huge hit with the children.

David Matthews and his excellent Try Track & Field Team of coaches delivered a two-hour special of sprinting, jumping and throwing that was a delight to witness.

Lauren Cadden excited the children as she showed them how to run relays and execute baton changes.  She also showed the children her relay medal from the European Championships and joined with them for photos that they will long treasure.

Many thanks to Dermot McDermott and John Travers who came from Sligo to help and to Ciaran Conlon, who set up all the stations for sprints, jumps and throws.

The Daily Mile was also celebrated with great success at the Educate Together Primary School in Waterford where three-time Olympian and European mixed 4x400m relay medallist Thomas Barr was special guest. It was another day of great delight and over 400 children gave Thomas a fitting hero welcome at the school.

Thomas joined with the children in some relays, and he also led them out as they completed The Daily Mile. The children delivered a rousing performance of The Daily Mile song and they showed how the song can also be adapted to a dance that children can participate in, in the hall or gym on rainy days.
