KATE O’CONNOR IN MEDAL CONTENTION AS TEAM IRELAND STAR SITS THIRD OVERNIGHT IN HEPTATHLON

Kate O’Connor is firmly in the hunt for a podium finish after a superb opening day in Birmingham, sitting third in the overnight standings with 3,926 points.

 

O’Connor is just 42 points behind the gold medal position, currently held by Poland’s Sulek-Schubert on 3,968 points, while Sofie Dokter occupies second place with 3,944 points.

 

With the competition finely poised, everything remains to play for on the final day. The remaining events — the long jump, javelin throw and 800m — will decide who takes home the medals, and O’Connor will be aiming to turn a strong first day into a memorable finish.

 

The Irish supporters will be hoping there is more silverware to celebrate in Birmingham tomorrow as the heptathlon reaches its dramatic conclusion.
